Oriel College has found itself sucked into the UK government’s phony culture wars, with its intention to remove the provocative and demeaning statue of Cecil Rhodes from the front of the college sideswiped by the relevant Minister making it known he would resist the necessary planning application for the statue’s removal, keeping them, uncomfortably in the public spotlight and causing them to waste.
